Thursday Thoughts... Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year again when we look around and suddenly realize just how much dust has settled in the corners, how much stuff has piled up in places we swore we’d keep tidy, and how mysteriously the junk drawer has managed to triple in size. Spring cleaning is here, and with it comes the annual battle of figuring out what stays, what goes, and why in the world we still have that box full of mystery cables that don’t seem to fit anything we own. On second thought… Michelle just threw my box away, so that one isn’t actually an issue anymore.
Spring cleaning isn’t just about wiping down baseboards or tackling that closet that’s one wrong move away from an avalanche. It’s about getting intentional and taking time to focus on the areas we tend to ignore or put off dealing with. Because every house needs that good deep cleaning from time to time. The same idea applies to other parts of life, like work, relationships, and personal growth.
If we don’t set aside time to take stock and deal with the things we’ve been neglecting, they don’t just magically improve. That project you’ve been pushing off at work isn’t going to finish itself. That coworker you keep meaning to check in with won’t suddenly feel more connected with you on their own. That disorganized inbox or messy workspace? It’s not going to sort itself out while you sleep. Life, just like your house, needs some scheduled maintenance.
Think about your job. Are there tasks you’ve been avoiding? Maybe it’s a project that you grimace at each time you think of it, a system update you keep meaning to implement, or a difficult conversation you’ve been putting off. These little things might seem insignificant in the moment, but when left unattended, they add up and create stress. Like a closet stuffed to the brim, your workload can become overwhelming if you don’t regularly step back and reorganize.
And then there’s your personal well-being. Have you been running on autopilot, ignoring the little things that keep you energized and balanced? Maybe your calendar is packed with commitments but lacking time for yourself. Maybe you’ve been skipping workouts, neglecting sleep, or pushing off much-needed downtime. Just like dust and clutter accumulate in our homes, stress and fatigue build up in our minds and bodies. If we don’t take the time to clear them out, they weigh us down more than we realize.
Spring cleaning, whether at home, at work, or in life, isn’t just about tidying up. It’s about resetting priorities, making space for what truly matters, and giving yourself the clarity to move forward with less baggage, both literal and figurative. A clean space, a clear plan, and an intentional mindset can make all the difference in how we feel and perform every day.
That Leads Me to This Week’s Challenge…
Pick an area of your life - your job, your home, your mindset - and commit to a “spring cleaning” session. Set aside time to address something you’ve been neglecting. Maybe it’s cleaning up your calendar, reworking your priorities, or finally tackling that one thing that’s been hanging over your head for way too long. A little effort now can make a huge difference down the road.
I’m grateful you took the time to read this, for choosing to work, and for being part of what makes this world a better place.
